DeFazio Secures Millions of Dollars for Projects in Lane and Benton Counties
Today, Rep. Peter DeFazio announced that he secured millions of dollars in funding for projects in Lane and Benton counties as part of the Fiscal Year 2022 Labor-Health and Human Services Appropriations Bill.
DeFazio secured several critical projects for Oregon’s Fourth Congressional District, including:
- $1,500,000 to establish a Federally Qualified Health Center in Cottage Grove.
- $500,000 for Lane Community College’s Aviation Pilot Improvement program.
- $1,000,000 for Benton County to establish a Crisis Respite Center.
“The funding included in this legislation will be vital for our community’s health, education, and well-being,” said Rep. DeFazio. “A Federally Qualified Health Center for Cottage Grove means access to vital primary and dental care. The Benton County Crisis Respite Center will serve individuals who are in need of crisis behavioral health care. The Lane Community College Aviation Pilot Improvement program will save students time and money by providing low-cost aviation degree training. I am proud of my work to secure these vital resources for our community.”
“I want to extend my thanks to Congressman DeFazio for recognizing the importance of expanding access to primary health care and dental care services in rural Oregon” said Lane County Commissioner Heather Buch. “He successfully inserted a funding request of $1.5M into one of the House’s FY 2022 budget bills for the development of a Federally Qualified Health Center which will be located in Cottage Grove. This funding will ensure Lane County is able to open this new clinic, and in particular address the oral health needs of the high number of children who live below the federal poverty level in that community. Congressman DeFazio did his research and well understands that when communities have direct access to health care, their residents are less likely to be burdened by chronic health issues. This funding is an investment that will pay off for all of the residents of southern Lane County, and we know he will continue to work to ensure this project is included in the final federal budget when it reaches President Biden’s desk for signature.”
“I applaud Congressman DeFazio’s work to secure this funding for Lane Community College’s Aviation Pilot Improvement Program” said Lane Community College President Margaret Hamilton. “This funding will help the Lane Aviation Academy (LAA) improve the quality of training and importantly, maintain accessibility by helping LAA maintain current student cost rates and by providing new and enhanced training for students that will save them time and money. These dollars will help keep up with the demands of the industry and keep southwest Oregon students competitive.”
