DeFazio Announces $1.5 Million Grant to Construct Health and Dental Facility to Serve the Coquille Nation
Rep. Peter DeFazio (OR-04) today announced a nearly $1.5 million grant, awarded by the Economic Development Administration (EDA), to construct the Ko-Kwel Wellness Center to provide medical and dental services for the Coquille Indian Tribe.
As Chairman of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, which has jurisdiction over the EDA, DeFazio played a leading role in securing this funding in the CARES Act.
“I am proud to have helped secure this important funding for the Coquille Tribe. Tribal nations continue struggling to access affordable, quality, and attentive health care. The new Ko-Kwel Wellness Center will be a game changer for the Coquille Nation,” DeFazio said.
The Ko-Kwel Wellness Center will be located on the Kilkich Reservation and improve access to basic medical services for tribe members in the Coos Bay and North Bend area. The $1,486,074 grant was awarded under a $1.5 billion grant program funded by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
