Congressman DeFazio Statement on Terrorist Attack at Kabul Airport in Afghanistan
Congressman Peter DeFazio (OR-04) today issued the following statement on the terrorist attack outside the Kabul airport, which killed dozens of people, including U.S. servicemembers, and injured many more.
“I strongly condemn the assault which killed and wounded U.S. servicemembers and Afghans outside the Kabul airport. I want to express my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of our military servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice. I extend my sincere sympathies for every innocent life taken,” said Rep. DeFazio. “The Biden Administration has worked diligently to evacuate U.S. citizens and our Afghan allies following the withdrawal of U.S. Armed Forces. I urge them to hasten the withdrawal and immediately remove Americans from any further harm. Since the end of July, over 100,000 people have been evacuated from Afghanistan with the assistance of the U.S. military and allied forces.”
“I am thankful for the bravery our servicemembers, who’ve worked tirelessly to keep Americans safe. The Biden Administration must continue to keep Congress regularly informed on the situation in Afghanistan. I will continue to do my part to support the evacuation and work to cut through bureaucratic red-tape to get Americans, allies, and vulnerable Afghans out of the country as soon as possible.”
